The Laboratory’s lines of research
 
Current intersections between the fields of development and culture.
This deals with an exercise of long term reflection and exploration that seeks to evaluate experiences, develop methodologies and processes, and give assistance to initiatives for productive inclusion. Responsible for the project: Alberto Abello, Eloisa Berman and Augusto Aleán. Within this same line of research, a second experience is being carried out with the assistance of Unesco (Costa Rica/Central America) within the project of Strengthening of Creativity and Productive Inclusion on the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua.
 
Local development and culture in the Colombian Caribbean.
This research project explores the points of intersection of culture and development at the local level in a Caribbean context (it is interested in the systems, finances, planning processes and sector strategies in three places: San Martín de Loba, Mompox and Cartagena de Indias). It also explores the role that culture can play in the reconstruction of the social fabric, the economy and democracy in the post-armed-conflict zones. This research is being undertaken by Alberto Abello, Jorge Alvis, Lissette Urquijo, Mauricio Rodríguez, Eneida Ramírez, Armando Alfaro and Catherine González.
 
Community initiatives and cultural activities for overcoming poverty in Cartagena de Indias.
This research-action project was prepared for Node of the D&C Network and the proposal was developed by Alberto Abello, Maristella Madero and Catherine González. Its implementation will begin in 2011 and it seeks to extract lessons that can be replicated from community processes in exercises of overcoming poverty in the city.
 
Applied Research Project on the relationships between Education/Culture and Development.
This work explores the role that a close articulation between cultural processes and the education system contributes to human development. Those participating in the project are:  Maristella Madero, Eloisa Berman, Jimena Rojas, Gilberto Almanza, Rafael Yunén, Gemma Carbo, Mireia Tresserras and William Arellano.
 
Project on the Millennium Development Goals and Culture.
This is a project in which researchers from the University of Girona and the UTB are participating, seeking to indentify the contributions of culture in the efficacy of the MDGs. The coordinator of this exercise is Professor Jorge Alvis.
 
Equity and the consumption of culture in Colombia.
This research examines the access of different groups within the population to cultural goods and services, employing a household survey in Colombia’s principal cities. It is supervised by Professor Aarón Espinosa.
 
Financing culture in Cartagena: Institutional analysis and proposal for financial strengthening of the Cartagena Institute of Heritage and Culture.
